Main Street Mercantile is a full-service grocery store in Lebanon, Kansas, a town of roughly 150 people. We’re here to keep good food close to home—and to build a business that invests in the future of the place we call home.
A store our community can count on
Formerly LaDow’s Market, the Merc carries on an essential role in Lebanon. A rural grocery store is part of the infrastructure that makes everyday life possible: a place to buy the week’s groceries, find what’s needed for supper, and take care of a household without a long drive.
Keeping that service strong takes work. We serve fewer customers than a larger store, while managing long supply chains, rising operating costs, and aging buildings and equipment. Every major investment has to make sense for a relatively small sales base. Those realities shape our decisions every day.
Growing with a purpose
Our response has been to keep evolving. We’ve invested in the store, expanded food production, developed catering and prepared foods, and worked with locally raised meats. We’ve also created complementary businesses and sources of revenue that help support one another.
Each part contributes to a stronger whole: more ways to serve people, put good food to use, and build a business that can last.

Keeping the grocery store open is part of a larger goal. We’re building a sustainable rural food system—one that gives our community access to good food, supports agriculture, creates jobs, and gives visitors another reason to stop in Lebanon.
